Šumiac sits right below Kráľova hoľa, where the Low Tatras meet Muránska planina. You ride straight from the shop onto the trail. Here are our favourite destinations, all doable by e-bike for most visitors.
A full day costs only a little more than four hours and it is the best decision you can make when booking. No watching the clock, time for a second stop, lunch in Telgárt or waiting for the cloud to leave the summit. Most of the routes below combine comfortably into a single day.
01The legendary summit of the Low Tatras (1,946 m)
The paved road from Šumiac to the summit transmitter is an experience even less trained riders can manage on an e-bike. The reward is a 360° view of the Tatras, Slovak Paradise and Muránska planina.
02Karst plateau, meadows and wild horses
Via Telgárt and the Zbojská saddle you reach Muránska planina National Park. Forest roads, silence and, with a bit of luck, a meeting with the semi-wild Muráň Norik horses.
03A family trip to see ground squirrels near Muráň
A relaxed route to a meadow inhabited by a colony of European ground squirrels. Kids can watch them from a few metres away. Ideal with a kids' e-bike or a child seat.
04Iconic stone railway viaduct near Telgárt
Follow the Horehronie cycle route to the 113 m long stone viaduct and the nearby Telgárt spiral tunnel. On the way back, stop at the source of the river Hron.
